Different templates for different types of the same object

If you need to make different assessments for different types of accounts, opportunities, you can enable Multiple templates

Multiple templates allow you to use one Sales template for one group of objects and another Sales template for other groups of the same object. You choose a picklist field, e.g. Type, on the object to control the selection of templates. For each of the values for this picklist field, e.g. "New business", you can assign a different template; when publishing this different template, then this will be the basis for assessing all objects with "New business" as Type. Objects which do not have "New business" as Type, will be assessed based on the default template; this also includes objects where the Type field is blank.

Below is a step by step description for how to enable multiple templates.

  • You enable Multiple templates within the Sales templates for the particular object type (opportunity, account or any other object type).

  • You choose a picklist field on the object for controlling the selection of templates. You can choose any picklist, including a custom field on the object.

  • You choose the value for the picklist field for which the objects should use a different template. You can assign different templates to different values of the picklist field. You can also remove an existing value for a different template - then objects with this value will use the default template.

  • Finally you choose a template to use as a starting point for the different template. You can copy any of the existing templates, published as well as non-published, and from the Default type as well as any other type versions.

When multiple templates have been enabled, the overview of template versions will be split per type. The default template will be used for all object records, where a different template has not been published.
